PostSubject: Shepton Show 2012   Tue Feb 21, 2012 9:31 am

9am Friday morning Andy is at the GP for a follow up for a thumb injury of 4 weeks ago. A routine quick appointment it was expected to be - wrong! Off to the hospital for further x rays only to discover that now there is a clear break showing. To the plaster room to immobilise the thumb with a cast from fingers to elbow.

Back at home several hours later a kindly neighbour helps us load the bike on to the trailer.

Bearing in mind that I have only driven our camper van a few times on the motorway - yes, I do take the girlie, lazy option of sitting in the passenger seat and every time thinking "I really must practice driving this van" - and, until a week ago, I have NEVER towed a trailer. I am now faced with driving the van to Shepton pulling a trailer. affraid

Thankfully, the van, trailer and it's precious cargo arrived at Shepton and then back home again without incident.

Many thanks to Roger and Phil Webb who rode our bike on and off the trailer and to the Club Stand - there was no way that I was going to drive closer and then have to reverse out!

Well done to Rob who sourced and transported all the items to make our "Pub Theme" Club Stand. Due to Andy's previous life as a Publican we were able to take a few bits and pieces to add.

Our stand complete by early evening we felt we deserved a drink or maybe two. Those of us who stayed had a very pleasant couple of evenings. Thanks to Mike, Roger and Fletch for putting up with me.

Here are some pictures of our stand.

The Wells Club Stand was next door - they had bikes in their parlour!
Note the fitted carpet - on Saturday night they were hoovering it!
All their hard work paid off as they did win a prize. Clap

We only had 11 bikes, but we did have an eclectic mix that we were able to spread out to show them in all their glory.

It was a pity we had no Japanese bike there - we will try to rectify that next year.

Roger's scooter got the most attention by far - hardly anyone passed it by - they just had to stop to have a closer inspection. Rolling Eyes

We could not have done this without folk bringing their bikes and being there to keep them safe throughout the weekend - and so........

Here are the Wrinklies themselves!

Not only was Roger's scooter the star of the show but also his dog - what a star she is?!
Apologies to Lucy - the photo is a little blurred.

We did tell him not to drink so much so quickly. No

Sadly the weekend did not end of a happy note - when we were loading the bikes, Mike discovered that his trailer board/ramp was missing. It is unbelievable that it had been stolen as it was more or less hidden by Fran's trailer which was locked on top of Mike's. Crying or Very sad
Hope you manage to replace it Mike without too much hassle and cost.
It seems that thieves have no regard for how upsetting and inconvenient it is to loose a possession. Here's hoping that Mike still managed to recall the good bits of the weekend over and above the ending.

I have got lots of pictures of the other bikes in the show - and there are some beautiful machines. I will post those as a slide show another day - it is now 22.30 and I have had enough of the computer for tonight!

A superb set of pics, looks like a good time was had by all, I noticed that even the pub must be on hard times to, the green wall needed a coat of paint. Cant wait for the slide show.

Nothing to do with me Ian. It was all Paula's work.

No, we didn'y pay the £15 to view the auction bikes. I think it's a bloody nerve for Bonham's to charge this just to view, what appeared to be, a load of junk! If nobody paid this ridiculous charge they wouln't get anyone in to bid would they. However the 'Investment Bikers' who have loads of dosh but little care about motorcycling will continue to make these auction houses very wealthy. I've got no time for either them. All they are doing is pushing ownership of classic bikes beyond the reaches of the ordinary enthusiast.

PostSubject: More photos as promised   Wed Feb 22, 2012 7:42 am

Well here are the rest - as a slideshow this time. These are some of the bikes that took my fancy - just a few!

I do especially like the first shot in my slide show and the next two are especially for Spanners - he went all weak at the knees when he saw this one.

Enjoy thumbs

Yes, really good club stand but surely we could raise more than eleven bikes!!!!

Less than that number and the question has to be asked, would it be worth the work.

We need a theme for next year - any ideas?

I too would not even consider paying £15 to view the auction!! I wish every failure upon Bonhams.

After a dry start to Saturday morning, after compaining to management, managed to get water and toilets up and running just before midday when the place was heaving with visitors - some looking for a wee.

Funny moment??? when a smartie ran his finger along my front wheel rim and asked what it was that came off. I had to explain the concept of road dirt........

It was a filthy ride up on the stretch from Castle Cary to the showground but it had dried up ready for a very pleasant fast road burn back home on Sunday evening.

Paula has replied to this in a new thread.

This can be viewed HERE.
